British Cosy Mystery
British cosy mysteries with eccentric characters, unlikely communities and dead bodies turning up in unexpected places.
Kitty Brookstone writes British cosy mysteries with a slightly different view of where cosy can happen.
Her stories move from the faded glamour of show business to the streets and pubs of South London, with mysteries built around the people and communities that inhabit them.
Sometimes glamorous, sometimes gritty, always distinctly British.
The Fame & Fortune Mysteries follow Ron Ashcroft, a faded 1980s pop star, and his wife Eva, a retired supermodel with a sharp eye for nonsense.
Ron agrees to a televised comeback for the nostalgia and the catering. He does not agree to a corpse in the green room.
From reunion gigs in Brighton to villa parties on the Riviera, each book is a standalone mystery drawn from the worlds of entertainment and fame.
At the heart of the series are Ron and Eva, two people who are completely in love and have been married long enough to know when the other one is talking rubbish. Whatever gets thrown at them, they’re a team.
The Red Lion Mysteries are set in and around a well-worn pub in South London.
The regulars are a mixed bunch of Londoners of different ages, backgrounds and walks of life. Some have lived locally for generations. Others arrived because they can’t afford Hackney. What brings them together is the Red Lion.
It starts with a quiz night. Before long, the regulars find themselves with mysteries rather closer to home.
This is cosy mystery with an urban edge: an inner-city community, a grimy old pub and all the eccentricity you’d expect from a British cosy, without a village green in sight.
